Instructions for basic 8-cord flat braid.
Start with 8 strands of cord, each a few inches longer than twice the length that you want the finished braid to be. You can use any number of colors. The pattern that you will get depends on the placement of the colors. Experiment to see what you will get!
Tie the cords in a knot and place the knot in the hole in the middle of the plate. Place the cords in the configuration shown here. Follow the arrows to create your braid.
This flat braid was created with 4 colors.

Start over again with step 1 and repeat the pattern until the braid is the desired length.
